When Richard Dietz Sr. introduced AQUA-GLASS™ to Southern California in 1991, most fiberglass pool work was rolled on with buckets and paint rollers. Those finishes bonded poorly and cured unevenly. He built a different method, and from 1996 through 2008 Aqua Creations was the only fiberglass resurfacing company to win Best Alternative Surfacing at the Western Pool & Spa Show.
- Grind the old surfaceThe existing finish is disk-ground down so the new system bonds to sound material, not to old coatings.
- Repair loose or hollow plasterWeak and hollow spots are cut out and repaired before anything goes on top of them.
- Apply the vinyl ester barrier coatAn unfilled, non-pigmented vinyl ester bonding coat, part of the system since 1994, locks the laminate to the shell.
- Laminate with chopper gunsFiberglass is sprayed on with chopper guns, applying about 30% more material than rolled-on methods.
